Role of Grain Size and Recrystallization Texture in the Corrosion Behavior of Pure Iron in Acidic Medium

This work investigates the role of grain size and recrystallization texture in corrosion behavior pure iron 0.1 M sulfuric acid solution. Annealing heat treatment was applied to obtain samples with different average sizes (26, 53 87 µm). Optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction electron backscatter techniques were used characterize microstructure. The EBSD data analysis showed ferrite phase no inclusions very low geometrically necessary dislocation density, indicating strain-free grains constituting all samples. crystallographic revealed that 26 µm sample had a high volume fraction {111} oriented parallel surface, while other exhibited nearly random texture. electrochemical results from potentiodynamic polarization impedance spectroscopy decrease resistance then an increase for sample. attributed dominant effect on cathodic hydrogen evolution reaction kinetics found play decisive iron.
